Transaction response "ERROR" without response codes / messages

If you are experiencing a transaction with the response / response status = "ERROR"  but there is no additional information and no Gateway ID from your Payment Gateway: 

1. This is an error contacting your Payment Gateway. 

2. Wait a couple of minutes then try again, or contact your gateway to see if they are experiencing network issues. Check sites like or call your payment gateway's support. 

3. Attempting the transaction directly with your gateway is not recommended, as it will create a record that does not exist in Salesforce. It also is not a reliable troubleshooting tool, as  

4. If your payment gateway is not having any issues, check to see if your Salesforce instance is experiencing any issues. You will need your instance number (eg. na15), which can be found in the URL in your browser window.
